Central Bank of Nigeria
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is the central bank and apex monetary authority of Nigeria established by the CBN as Act of 1958 and begins operations on 1 July 1959.
CBN was acronym from CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA
Responsibilities of central Bank of Nigeria CBN
The major regulatory objectives of the bank as stated in the CBN Act are to:
1 maintain the external reserves of the country,
2 promote monetary stability and a sound financial environment,
3 It act as a banker of last resort and financial adviser to the federal government.
Function of CBN
The central bank’s role as lender of last resort and adviser to the federal government has sometimes pushed it into murky regulatory waters. After the end of imperial rule the desire of the government to become pro-active in the development of the economy became visible especially after the end of the Nigerian civil war, the bank followed the government’s desire and took a determined effort to supplement any show shortfalls, credit allocations to the real sector. Bank became involved in lending directly to consumers, contravening its original intention to work through commercial banks in activities involving consumer lending.

Statutory Powers and Duties of CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria establishment Act 2007[25] affirms the establishment of a body known as the Central Bank of Nigeria. The act also states the fundamental objects of the bank, which include the sole power to issue notes and coins, maintain an external reserve for country and generally supervise the entire banking system in Nigeria.
The Banks and Other Financial Institutions as Act, 2020,[26] empowers the Governor of the CBN is to issue a license to anyone wanting to start a banking business in Nigeria, with specific procedures.
The act prohibits anyone from operating a banking business in Nigeria without such a license. Additionally, the BOFIA empowers the Governor of the CBN to issue regulations, guidelines and policies to banks, specialized banks, and other financial institutions in Nigeria. And to appoint officers to supervise and examine these institutions according to the dictates of the governor. Also, Section 5 of the BOFIA empowers the CBN to revoke the license of any bank for stipulated reasons.
The mandate of the Central Bank of Nigeria is derived from the 1958 Act of Parliament, as amended in 1991, 1993,1997,1998,1999 and 2007.
The CBN Act of 2007 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria charges the Bank with the overall control and administration of the monetary and financial sector policies of the Federal Government.

The Role of the CBN are as follows:
1 ensure monetary and price stability
2 issue legal tender currency in Nigeria
3 maintain external reserves to safeguard the international value of the legal tender currency
4 promote a sound financial system in Nigeria
5 act as Banker and provide economic and financial advice to the Federal Government.
Consequently, the Bank is charged with the responsibility of administering the Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA), 2020, with the sole aim of ensuring high standards of banking practice and financial stability through its surveillance activities, as well as the promotion of an efficient payment system.
In addition to its core functions, CBN has over the years performed some major developmental functions, focussed on all the key sectors of the Nigerian economy (financial, agricultural and industrial sectors). Overall, these mandates are carried out by the Bank through its various departments.

Federal Ministry of Environment is a ministry of the Federal Government of Nigeria created in 1999 with a mandate to address environmental issues and to ensure the effective coordination of all environmental matters in Nigeria
Establishment of ministry of environment
How federal ministry of environment was established
The present Suleja was formally known as Abuja, a sparsely populated town with a population of about 500,000 people; it was completely rural with little or no infrastructure until the enactment of Decree No. 6 of 1976.
Before the 1976 Decree, a committee (‘The Aguda Panel’)was commissioned to go round the country in search of a suitable location for the New Federal Capital with two major points of reference; a region that is sparsely populated and that is centrally located. And the region now known as Abuja met these requirements and hence became the recommended location for the New Federal Capital.
The acceptance of the recommendation of the committee, led to the enactment of Decree No. 6, of 1976, the Federal Capital Territory Act, and this became the blueprint for the re-location of the new Federal Capital from Lagos to Abuja.
The town originally known as Abuja was later renamed Suleja, while the name “Abuja” was reserved for the capital-to-be.
In order to realise the objective of developing Abuja, the new Capital City, into a masterpiece on the African continent, the Federal Government established the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) as the sole agency vested with the responsibility of planning, designing and developing the city.

Achievements of the Ministry of environment
One of the major achievements of the Federal Ministry of Environment is the initiation of the Ogoniland clean-up programme of the Nigerian government. The ministry of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) was established by Act No. 62 of 1979, as amended by Act No. 32 of 1988 and Act No. 19 of 1989 , with the statutory mandate for the strategic planning and co-ordination of national policies in the field of Energy in all its ramifications.
By the responsibilities of the Energy commission of Nigeria (ECN) is the apex government organ empowered to carry out overall energy sector planning and policy implementation, to promote the diversification of the energy resources through the development and optimal utilization of all, including the introduction of new and alternative Energy resources like Solar, Wind, Biomass and Nuclear Energy.

such other recommendations to the Government of the Federation relating to its functions under this Decree as the Commission may consider to be in the national interest;
Lay down guidelines on the utilization of energy types for specific purposes and in a prescribed sequence
Collate, analyse and publish information relating to the field of energy from all sources, where such information in relevant to the discharge of its functions under this Decree;
Serve as a centre for gathering and dissemination of information relating to national policy in the field of Energy development
Monitor the performance of the Energy sector in the execution of government policies on energy Carry out such other activities as may be directed by Government.

Internal and External Relationships of ECN
Energy is an input to all productive sectors of the economy. Because of the energy implications of overall socio-economic development plans, multi-sectoral inputs are needed for integrated energy planning.
It is also the responsibility of the Commission to monitor the performances of the various institutions to ensure compliance with the overall energy policy and programme of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, FRN.
The production, conversion and delivery of the various forms of energy require activities which cut across the functions of various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) including, Petroleum Resources, Solid Minerals Development, Power and Steel, Transport, Communications, Agriculture, Environment etc
To ensure a co-ordinated development of the energy sector in consonance with the overall national development goals, the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), through its policies and plans, has specified the various contributions expected of the energy supply sub-sectors to the total energy mix as well as the application of the energy types to the different consumption sectors.
Also, in the pursuit of Regional and International Energy Cooperation and Development objectives, linkages have been established with various international organisations, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Energy Council (WEC), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the International Energy Charter (IECh), the United Nation Development Programme (UNDP), and other relevant partners in the sector.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria has continued with its rural development programmes characterized by the construction, installation and, in some cases, commissioning of pilot and demonstration projects that are aimed at both improving the standard of living of the rural populace through the utilization and popularisation of our abundant renewable energy resources, as well as providing the desired conducive environment which is absolutely necessary for rapid rural industrialization in particular and National industrial development in general through the provision of employment opportunities and the much-desired technical skills which could ultimately lead to the drastic reduction in the growing social problem of rural-urban migration.
With the growing interest in the development and application of renewable energy resources, the Commission has been undertaking research and development activities in various aspects of renewable energy utilization. So far, a number of the technologies have since been shown to be feasible and ready for adoption, especially in the rural areas of Nigeria.
